MY STORY
Hannah Dornbusch, MA, LMHC, NCC
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State with a Master’s degree in Counseling from Antioch University. I also serve as an adjunct professor in the Master’s in Counseling program at Antioch University Seattle and am an approved Washington State clinical supervisor for associate-level therapists. My background includes years of experience with AmeriCorps, non-profits, and community mental health—work that has shaped my commitment to relational, culturally responsive care.

My therapeutic style is direct, grounded, and compassionate. A colleague once joked that I’m “not a kumbaya therapist”—and they were right. I’m warm and engaged, but I also believe in being honest and getting to the heart of the matter. I’ll help you explore patterns, identify defenses, and stay aligned with your goals, even when the work feels tough.

I’m proudly allied with the LGBTQIA+ community and deeply attuned to the ways culture, class, race, gender, and systems shape our inner and outer worlds. Together, we’ll create a space where you can be fully seen, supported, and challenged as you move toward healing and growth.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR VISIT
I implement effective psychotherapy methods such as EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy, the Gottman method, and DBT, to instill self-understanding among patients and encourage new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient.
I am trained in EMDR and enjoy working with adults, teens, and couples. The therapeutic lens that I commonly work from is called attachment focus. It allows an understanding of how a client learned to behave, attach, and have needs met. By using this approach, there is a greater understanding of current “maladaptive” coping strategies that may be interfering with daily life (relationships, work, etc). Together, we walk through the process of rediscovering what you want, healing past wounds that interfere with your current life, and how to learn new adaptive strategies that align more with who you want to be.

OVERVIEW OF THERAPIES WE MAY USE
EMDR
(EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING)
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that uses bilateral stimulation to help your brain process and move through distressing memories/events. The effects of this therapy are astounding and many people have found complete remission from issues they have been working on for years in talk therapy. To learn more, click the link below!
ATTACHMENT-BASEDÂ
THERAPY
Attachment-based therapy aims to look at how we learned to survive and create connection in the world. As humans, we are wired for connection, but early on in life, there may have been ways that we learned to create bonds that are currently interfering with relationships/getting needs met. If there is ample abandonment, neglect, criticism, or detachment in a child's life, they may experience the effects of this in their adult life.
